Magnetic mirror
Due to the Lorentz force, charged particles in magnetic fields move on helical trajectories. When the magnetic lines of field direct apart (the magnetic flux decreases), the Lorentz force possesses a component pointing towards the weaker magnetic field. This leads to reflection of the charged particle in regions with abrupt increase of the magnetic field.
