Plasma polymerisation
Coating method involving the polymerization of organic molecules in a plasma and their deposition on a substrate’s surface. As plasma polymerisation is initiated by cleavage of chemical bonds in the monomer molecules, saturated compounds can also be polymerised by plasma. Generally, plasma polymers are characterized by a less regular structure and a higher degree of crosslinking than analogeous polymers synthesized in liquid phase. Numerous applications, e. g. in the area of barrier layers, hydrophilic layers, hydrophobic layers, etc.
